When charging fees for advocacy services, it is important to consider the type of advocacy provided and the caregiver’s income to ensure accessibility and fairness.
Common types of advocacy and considerations include:
• Educational Advocacy: Assisting caregivers and students with understanding Individualized Education Plans (IEPs), New York State Commissioner’s Regulations CR Part 154. Fees may vary based on the level of preparation, meeting attendance, or document review required.
• Income-Based Sliding Scale: To ensure equitable access to advocacy services, fees can be adjusted based on a caregiver’s household income. A sliding scale ensures those with lower incomes are not excluded from support.
